Lesson 16

Today we reviewed the Australia/Ocean project that is due on Monday, January 13 (see notes below).  Then we enjoyed holiday treats and competed in a Christmas Around the World geography challenge.  We learned some 'interesting' traditions about how different cultures celebrate the holiday with unique foods and customs.

Please keep the tourist and residents of New Zealand effected by the volcanic activity on White Island in your prayers.   Although this island is uninhabited, it is a popular tourist attraction.  There had been no volcanic activity since 2001, with the last fatal event over 100 years ago. At this time, there are 6 confirmed dead and 8 missing.  Dozens of others have been been transported to local hospitals for treatment of burns.  Royal Caribbean's 'Ovation of the Seas' had cruise passengers on the island for an excursion when the volcanic activity happened.
